In 2023, Dan Schiffman, founder of the Frederick-based financial firm Capital River Wealth Management, celebrated 25 years of service to his clients and community as a wealth management advisor with Northwestern Mutual. To celebrate this momentous career milestone, The Capital River team threw a 25th anniversary party at their across-the-creek neighbor, Union Mills Public House, and invited friends, family, and clients for a night of food, music, and fun. It is truly a rare occasion for a business to be able to invite all of their most trusted community partners into one room to celebrate, and downtown Frederick made for the perfect backdrop for the evening.
Schiffman began his career with Northwestern Mutual in 1998 in downtown Frederick, and over the years has expanded his reach in the community through entrepreneurship, volunteerism, philanthropy, and a partnership focused approach to engaging with his clients. Through the years, Dan and his team have made an impact on so many families and businesses in the Frederick area (and beyond) by providing them with financial guidance and customized plans to address both their present needs and their future plans. When Schiffman first made the leap into financial services, he was working for a consulting firm but knew that his long-term goal was a career in the financial industry. Dan’s father passed away when he was in high school, and over the years he spent a lot of time reflecting on the experience that his mother had with her financial planner during that difficult time. Dan had a vision for the experience that he believed his mother had deserved, and it motivated him to get into the financial industry and do better by people. Dan spent about nine months researching different financial firms and different career paths within —and through all his research he believed that Northwestern Mutual most closely aligned with his values. As fate would have it, Dan happened to be working at a career fair for his consulting job and his company’s booth was right next to the Northwestern Mutual booth. The rest is history! Dan has been with Northwestern Mutual ever since. He formed Capital River Wealth Management in 2021, and brought on his long-time associates Annette Tinder and Luke McLaughlin as partners in the business in 2022. The practice currently resides at 150 South East Street in the Monocacy Valley Cannery Office Building.
One highlight of the evening celebrating Dan’s 25th career anniversary was Dan receiving a Proclamation of Recognition from the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce to honor his many years of service to the Frederick community as a business owner.
