Moxi vs. BBL HERO

WHICH LASER IS BETTER FOR YOU?

Time. Genetics. Sunlight. All three age skin. All three are unavoidable. But thanks to the power of lasers, they are no longer unmanageable. Laser skin rejuvenation shrinks pores and vessels, reduces wrinkles and redness, improves the appearance of age spots, sun damage, rosacea and acne scarring, and makes skin tighter and smoother – in just one or a few sessions, and with discomfort comparable to snapping a rubber band against your skin.

If you’re interested in laser therapy in Chanhassen, MN (or anywhere else on earth, for that matter), then you may already have heard of Moxi and BBL HERO. How do these laser devices work? And which one is better for your skin? Let’s find out!

How Does Laser Skin Rejuvenation Work?

In essence, a laser is just a narrow beam of light that has passed through crystal, glass or gas. A laser therapist uses a specialized device to direct rapid, gentle pulses of light at their patient’s skin, which heats up its underlying layer to stimulate collagen production.

If you’re already familiar with beauty and cosmetics, then you probably recognize collagen as a super protein. It works with other naturally occurring substances in the body to maintain skin moisture, volume and elasticity: the three keys to a youthful appearance.

Are Moxi and BBL HERO the Same Thing?

All laser therapy devices work on the same fundamental principle, but that doesn’t mean they’re identical to one another. Many people assume that Moxi and BroadBand Light High Energy Rapid Output (BBL HERO) are identical skincare treatments because they are both made by Sciton. Others assume that one must be better than the other, or else both wouldn’t be available. In fact, Moxi and BBL HERO each have their advantages – and they may even be used together to achieve especially transformative skin rejuvenation.

What Is Moxi?

Moxi provides fast laser treatment: typically 12 to 15 minutes, and possibly complete after a single session. Moxi’s 1,310 nanometer wavelength (nm) laser is so gentle that the patient may feel nothing at all during treatment. (For reference, the wavelength of natural sunlight ranges between 400 to 750 nm.)

Moxi treats only a small area of the skin at a time, yet it still stimulates collagen production sufficiently to even out skin tone and pigmentation, smooth out wrinkles and skin texture, and soften the appearance of age spots.

What Is BBL HERO?

BBL HERO treatment also typically lasts 12 to 15 minutes, although many patients schedule three to five sessions in order to get their desired results. However, BBL HERO’s higher 1,550 nm wavelength makes it more powerful than Moxi. That’s why patients typically feel warmth in their skin for 30 to 60 minutes following treatment. It’s also why they notice such dramatic improvement in their skin after just a few sessions.

By stimulating collagen production so effectively, BBL HERO is able to improve skin elasticity, even out skin tone, and greatly reduce the appearance of spider veins, rosacea, sun damage, scarring, acne, wrinkles, and several other early signs of aging.

What Is ScitonStaX?

ScitonStaX combines at least three synergistic modalities by Sciton to deliver the most dramatic patient outcomes. Laser technicians often include both Moxi and BBL HERO as part of a ScitonStaX program, as the devices’ two different wavelengths allow them to customize the best treatments for their patients’ unique aesthetic goals. ScitonStaX also includes at least one of the following:

  • ClearSilk - A gentle 1,064 nm laser that visibly reduces flushing, blushing, redness, fine lines and other blemishes
  • HALO - An intermediate 1,470 nm laser that reduces the appearance of sun damage in the thickest layer of skin
  • Tunable Resurfacing Laser (TRL) - A powerful 2,940 nm laser that safely ablates the surface of the skin while simultaneously increasing dermal collagen levels
