Big As Texas

It's music festival season and Montgomery County shows up big for it

Get ready for Texas' largest country and Americana music festival debut, right here in Montgomery County. On Mother's Day weekend, music lovers will unite at the Montgomery County Fair Grounds for a good time and a good cause over the three-day celebration. The Big As Texas Music Festival is independently-produced and is hosting the largest economic event to benefit 40 501c3 nonprofits.  Planning got underway two years ago by the founders: Steve Said, Dosey Doe's music magnet,  Trey Diller, with 72 festivals under his belt, and Robert Marling, Chairman of the Board for Woodforest National Bank. The roots of this festival run deep for its founders and many families in Montgomery County aiming to bring prevention and awareness to those considering taking their lives.

"We want to make a huge statement in the industry and a lasting impact in the community," says Trey Diller.

Ten percent of the music festival's ticket proceeds will be donated to the 40 nonprofits making a difference in our community, all of which will have a presence on the festival grounds all weekend. Dozens of Texas vendors and artisans will bring their best alongside exhibitions and something for all ages.

The world-class lineup for the festival is on the website, BigAsTexasFest.com and tickets can be purchased here. Fan favorites include: Dierks Bentley, Thomas Rhett, Billy Strings, Dwight Yoakam, Clay Walker, Midland, and 30 other superstars. The venue will hold two main stages and one smaller arena stage that will house 7,000 people. Besides music, the festival will showcase immersive art installations, culinary events, an equestrian event, auto shows, and your favorite Western activities from roping to line dancing. Don't miss the Fire Armadillo activation with laser weapons - either for target practice, to ward off zombies, or rescue hostages. It all sounds very Texas and it's going to be an epic family-friendly weekend.

Decadent food creations are part of every fair and festival and out of 250 applicants, 40 were narrowed down and selected as the music festival vendors with all your favorite fair foods. A live fire experience will include roasting bison, wild axis deer, and a suckling pig. Texas, food, and music bring together like-minded folk gathering to unwind, celebrate, and support our community and its locals.

"It was time we did something to make suicide more prevalent than it is," says Steve. "Because of the cause, the one thing we do not have a shortage of are volunteers."

There are multiple opportunities to make the music fest your own from hooking up your RV or pitching a tent, to a first-class all-you-can-eat and drink V.I.P. experience. Different levels of wristbands are found online with a description of ticket packages including the swag, admission, and extras.

With a combination of music, events, and an authentic love of community and giving back, the festival's founders bring experience and passion to the Big As Texas Music Festival. Steve, and Trey each have a personal story that inspires them to launch this epic weekend to ultimately bring the community together for a great time but also a meaningful cause.

Steve Said, the music man behind Dosey Doe, is humble about his beginnings. You might not know that Steve used to write lyrics for alternative rock and roll, and country artists, and has always loved music. While he claims he cannot sing, or barely play an instrument, music has always had a big impact on his life. Steve's knowledge and passion for coffee is how Dosey Doe came to fruition, and now it's a well-known hot spot for dinner and live music. The intimate concert venue has been home to well-known voices, big stars, and rising stars.

Bring your foldable lawn chairs or blankets for lounging around to take in the sights in between the musical numbers. ATM's will be available on the grounds and cash and cards will be accepted for food, drinks, and memorabilia. Unless you have a certified service dog for the visually impaired, leave the pups at home. Coolers and outside drinks and drink containers will not be permitted at the gates, so leave them in your car and buy local to support our vendors. We'll see you at the festival!
