Million Dollar Bacon

Totally Addictive and So Easy to Make

Bacon is good on its own, but what makes this worthy of the million dollar title is the syrupy sweet topping. It creates an addicting balance of sweet and salty.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound thick cut bacon (10 to 14 slices)

  • 1/3 cup maple syrup

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Line a 15x10x2-inch baking pan with foil. Place a wire rack on top of foil.

  2. In a small bowl combine brown sugar, black pepper and cayenne; set aside.

  3. Pour syrup in a small shallow dish. Dip bacon strips in the syrup, coating both sides. Lay bacon on wire rack in a single layer. Sprinkle bacon with the sugar mixture, pressing gently to help it adhere.

  4. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes until bacon is caramelized and beginning to crisp. (Bacon will firm up upon standing.) Let cool 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
