Traditionally, Houston home designs have leaned towards classic styles reminiscent of Southern culture. However, in the wake of the pandemic, we see many neighborhoods transition to more contemporary styles, transforming the Houston landscape.

While 30 percent of home buyers in Houston are international, there has recently been a significant influx of home buyers from California and New York working remotely and wanting more space. These buyers fast-tracked Houston home designs into a more contemporary design typically seen on the East and West Coasts, and some of these design elements are reshaping Houston’s neighborhoods.

Houston’s natural beauty inspires a growing desire for seamless indoor-outdoor living spaces. Homes now have floor-to-ceiling windows and doors, offering breathtaking city views or lush surroundings. Discerning homeowners invest in retractable glass walls, spacious verandas, and sprawling terraces, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces.

While nature is a big theme in home design today with sleek contemporary lines, Houston’s luxury homeowners are embracing smart home technology to elevate their living space. From integrated lighting systems and automated window treatments to voice-controlled appliances, cutting-edge automation creates a seamless and convenient lifestyle. Sustainable features such as solar panels, energy-efficient HVAC systems, and eco-friendly materials are gaining popularity, reflecting a commitment to environmental responsibility.
