Silver Bluff Grove

Learn how this assisted living facility helps their residents thrive

As an assisted living and memory care community, Silver Bluff Grove’s mission centers around home and comfort. “As soon as you pull in, you see the front porch with the rocking chairs. A lot of the time, it reminds people about coming to their grandparents’ homes, sitting on the porch with their family. When you walk in, you see our fireplace in our living room,” says Laura Argo, the Community Resource Director at Silver Bluff Grove. “When your loved ones are getting to an age where they’re needing assistance for things, instead of the family trying to pile everything on themselves and all the tasks, we have a person here designated for everything,” says Laura.

Laura handles community relations, sales and marketing, and is usually the first point of contact for families inquiring about Silver Bluff Grove. Laura grew up in Aiken and loves connecting with the residents at Silver Bluff Grove. “I came from corporate sales so coming to Silver Bluff Grove has really made me appreciate community service,” says Laura.

Silver Bluff Grove has been in Aiken for over twenty-five years. Available to the residents are an in-house nurse, transportation to appointments, all dietary services, and on-site therapy with Fox Rehabilitation Services. They also offer laundry services, day-to-day change of programming, religious services, activities based on preference and hobbies, a beauty salon, and resident council. “We create experiences day-to-day to make it seem like home. Even the meals we cook here are very focused on comfort. When someone is leaving their home to go somewhere else, it’s really important to make sure that they are still comforted,” says Laura.

Silver Bluff Grove offers both private and companion living spaces for their residents. “We have a more secure, intimate Memory Care building for our residents who have advanced a little more,” says Laura. The companion studios work well for those in Memory Care because as a person advances more, it’s soothing for them to be with someone. “A lot of the time, the people who are coming here, haven’t lived alone yet,” says Laura.

“Although we are not the biggest in the community, I feel like our care is unmatched. Our Administrator, Nicole Gilliam, knows everyone by name. She checks up on them and even knows if it’s just time for a new manicure,” says Laura. “I feel like it shines and reflects off of us onto the families that are here too. People may come in to check on a loved one, but they are also going to go down the hall and check on someone else too because they’ve grown to know them,” says Laura.

“When people get older, others tend to forget that there’s still life to be lived. We want to make sure that they’re thriving because they are still alive. I want people to know that this is not a nursing home. This is a place where mom and dad and grandma and grandpa can truly still have an everyday life, we’re just helping out a little bit,” says Laura. “It can be hard for families to make the transition, but we are here to make it as easy as possible.”
