The “Sweetest Little Town in NJ” might just be closer than you think. At a smidgen more than six square miles, Towaco is home to not only where you can find Diane’s Dairy, Sundae’s Ice Cream Parlor, The Homemade Factory, and the inimitable Landauer Café, but it’s also home to Bosco, the legendary syrup brand. Bosco is such a cultural touchstone that George Costanza of Seinfeld even used it as his PIN number.

For some, the word Bosco conjures up memories of childhood, of chocolate milk waiting for them after a long afternoon of outdoor play or an after-school treat. For the people of Towaco, it might be a source of local pride or even a paycheck. For you, it should take you to a very sweet future, starting right now, with the holidays.

For the uninitiated, Bosco traditionally is known as a chocolate syrup brand, dating back to 1928 and headquartered right here in Towaco. In recent years, they’ve also added additional syrup lines, including vanilla, coffee, strawberry, sugar-free, and a free-trade chocolate version. Usually, it’s thought of as something to mix into milk. But perhaps it’s time to stop thinking so traditionally about what Bosco can do to liven up your holiday recipes – and beyond.

You can start simply by adding a chocolate twist to your Christmas morning breakfast spread in place of maple syrup with your pancakes, waffles, or French toast. Or maybe even adding it to the batter itself. Or use it as a layer in some yogurt parfaits, with some fresh fruit as a secret surprise. It’s also an easy add to a cookie, brownie, or cupcake recipe for some decadent richness.

To get you started on your path to sweeter holidays, here’s a recipe that we like that you can try yourself. Maybe you’ll even start a new holiday tradition – revisiting a childhood favorite with your own kids, while gathering around your holiday Festivus pole.
