The Haynes family is known for hair and the community clearly loves them for it! What’s New Salon & Barber has been a staple of Murfreesboro for more than 45 years. Working in the industry since the late 1970s, Steve and Sandy have witnessed a lot of changes in both hairstyles and how salons are owned and operated. Over the decades they found themselves continually expanding as their stylists, services, and client lists grew. At one point, they oversaw two buildings including spa services. However, like many local companies, the global pandemic in 2020 caused them to re-evaluate their business model and make a shift.
Longevity is one of the things that makes What’s New Salon so unique and appreciated but Steve & Sandy recognized the need to let the next generation take the reins in order to set them up for success for the future. Their son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Lindsey Haynes, were instrumental in the recent concept and re-design. As a family, they decided to return the focus to what they do best and are most passionate about – hair. One client shared, “Steve and Sandy started the business with excellence and have continued to maintain that standard. The new space with both salon and barber chairs brings new energy into a well-designed space.” Mom and Dad have also taken a page out of Nick and Lindsey’s playbook for work-life balance. Sandy says they have no plans to retire just yet, but they have built in more time to rest and play.
From cuts to color, the stylists at What’s New Salon and Barber work diligently to stay on top of education and industry trends for men, women, and kids. The owners have built a collaborative atmosphere among their team who strive for excellence while also making their clients feel truly comfortable. This is the expectation that has kept clients coming back again and again for over 45 years. One guest commented, “This is the best salon I’ve ever visited with by far the most talent I’ve ever seen.”
