Oxidized Silver Kissed with 18K Provides Stunning Design without Stunning You on Price

Just a few short weeks ago, the eternally precious metal, gold, broke $4000 per ounce. In fact, it's blown up from just over $2000 an ounce in 2020- considered shockingly high at the time- to this new zenith in only five short years! Unfortunately, for jewelers and jewelry collectors alike, there is no end in sight to the rising price.

As a designer, I see price limitations as part of a design brief, a constraint that pushes me to be more resourceful, more creative, to design pieces that give my customers what they want: exciting handmade jewelry as unique as they are. As we slide into Holiday season, I want to clue you in on how to give (and receive!) gift worthy, handmade jewelry that uses the beauty of gold to its fullest potential, without breaking the bank.

The Allure of 18K Yellow Gold

Gold, of course, has always been synonymous with luxury and elegance. When I first started out as a jewelry designer, I chose to use 18K gold, rather than 14K, in my designs because I was attracted to its rich color and satiny surface. In the U.S., gold is rarely used in its purest state for jewelry pieces. Instead, it is mixed with other metals to create an alloy, a mixture with chemical and physical properties suited its intended use. Eighteen karat gold uses 75% pure gold in its alloy, as compared to 58% in 14K. This higher percentage of gold is responsible for its deep yellow color and other desirable properties.

By thoughtfully incorporating a small element of 18K yellow gold into my handmade designs, I've developed a collection that allows for artful designs without breaking the bank. My mixed metal pieces, consisting of the Galaxy series and other designs, is perfect to give you the "oomph" you're after. As gold prices climb to record highs, it turns out that designing with less gold is big win!

Why Oxidized Sterling Silver?

In the jewelry studio, oxidation results from a process of applying a liquid chemical to silver. The liquid reacts with the silver molecules to create a darkened surface. The resulting patina not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the piece, but also protects the silver underneath. The unique finish enhances the visual story in a variety of styles, from bohemian to minimalist, making it the right choice for so many designs.

Oxidized sterling silver jewelry stands out among jewelry options. The darkened hue adds depth and character, ideal artistic partners for expressive handmade pieces. This material contrasts beautifully with the rich, warm tones of 18K yellow gold, creating a captivating visual experience.

Accessibility Meets Luxury

One of the biggest advantages of the Mixed Metal collection is the balance we strike between luxury and accessibility. Given the soaring cost of gold, entirely gold pieces can be out of reach for many customers who want to wear or give something really special. However, pieces featuring a small amount of 18K in just the right way keep the prices affordable while still delivering that luxurious feel and art jewelry experience.

By embracing oxidized sterling silver as a primary material, RC Studio delivers high-quality pieces at a fraction of the price compared to all-gold items.

Elevating Your Style

Wearing artful mixed metal jewelry is a fantastic way to elevate your style and express your individual, visionary nature. Wearing our jewelry signals your high taste level and demonstrates that you value craftsmanship and art.

Of course, our oxidized sterling silver and 18K yellow gold pieces transform even the simplest outfits into something extraordinary. Imagine the beauty of an oxidized sterling necklace against a crisp white shirt or ivory sweater. Using just a bezel of18K gold around your favorite gemstone elevates your whole look, telling your story to without your having to say a word.

Final Thoughts on Craftsmanship and Creativity

As your jeweler, I'm passionate about creating pieces that are more than just accessories— I'm aiming for art. I pour my heart into each design, ensuring that every piece arrives with soul. By pairing oxidized sterling silver with elements of 18K yellow gold, I like to think I provide stunning jewelry that doesn’t compromise on either beauty or value.

With the current high price of gold, RC Studio Jewelry pieces not only shine with beauty but also bring exceptional value to those looking for meaningful accessories. I invite you to shop my Mixed Metal Collection online, or contact me to design a one-of-a-kind piece for your next important jewelry acquisition.
