Women wear many hats: wife, mother, business owner, volunteer, and more. While many juggle the responsibilities of life well, maintaining true balance can still feel like an ongoing challenge.
Amber Boskers knows that balancing act firsthand. Like many women, she manages family life, business responsibilities, and the unexpected moments that can quickly throw a carefully planned schedule off course.
Over time, she has learned that balance isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about recognizing when things feel off, making intentional adjustments, and creating systems that help life run more smoothly.
Amber shares how she manages the many roles in her life, and the practical ways she brings things back into balance when life inevitably shifts.
Tell us about the many roles you balance each day.
I’m a wife of nearly 24 years to an amazing husband who travels for work. I’m also a mom of two teenagers, one in college and the other a high school junior, and a very active club volleyball mom.
I manage our family’s real estate investments and co-own KohlerHaus Remodeling Co., where we specialize in condo and townhome renovations as well as pre-listing refresh services. I recently launched TradesAIQ, an AI automation business created to help trades professionals streamline operations and improve efficiency in their businesses.
At the same time, I’m overseeing the rebuilding of our flood-damaged home.
Most days start with a plan. I map things out the night before through time blocking and scheduling, but I’ve learned to expect the unexpected and pivot when needed.
How can you tell when your life is out of balance?
For me, being out-of-balance means I don’t have the energy or focus to maintain my normal baseline. I start losing stamina, and everyday tasks take longer than they should.
I notice I don’t sleep well, experience decision fatigue, and sometimes skip habits that usually keep me centered, like exercise or healthy eating.
It often begins with something feeling off. If I ignore that feeling, things can start compounding and affect my family, businesses and relationships. Recognizing those signs early helps me pause, reset, and adjust before it impacts everything else.
What are the first steps to getting things back into balance?
Awareness is the first step. Self-care is the next.
You are the focal point for yourself and your family, so taking care of you is essential. When I start feeling off, I focus on actions that help reset my mindset and energy.
That means going outside for a walk, working out, eating healthier, or doing something kind for myself. Sometimes it’s organizing a space or tackling something I’ve been avoiding.
I also lean into gratitude and my faith. Taking action and giving yourself grace helps lower stress and move forward with clarity and renewed perspective.
How do you maintain balance once you have it?
Consistency, intention, and action help keep me aligned.
Prioritizing health, nutrition, exercise, and peace of mind makes a big difference. Staying connected with others and giving back also helps keep me grounded.
Planning also plays a role. I organize my days and weeks with a planner and use a 90-day intention journal to track personal and business goals, which helps keep my priorities clear.
How does maintaining balance support personal growth?
How you manage one thing is how you manage everything. Balance isn’t static, it changes as we do.
When life feels balanced, you enjoy living your life. We only get one, so finding ways to live it fully, intentionally, and with gratitude is the real achievement.
“Balance begins with awareness. When something feels off, pause, reset, and care for yourself first—because how you show up for yourself shapes everything else.”
