This past spring, Allergy & ENT Associates expanded into Leander, bringing their expertise into the booming suburbs. When nurse practitioner Jill Apodaca, previously based at their Domain location, heard a new facility was opening, she jumped at the chance to continue the patient-focused work she loves.
Because the practice is so deeply family-centric, Apodaca knew Leander was the perfect fit. She’d seen countless families hesitate to start immunotherapy simply because the drive into Austin was too inconvenient, especially after school. But now, residents in Leander and Liberty Hill can access the care they need without having to deal with Mopac.
Allergy & ENT Associates treats all ages and the entire family. First visits start with targeted questions about your symptoms, what triggers them, and what you’ve tried so far. From there, patients receive testing to pinpoint the source and create a treatment plan tailored to relieving those symptoms.
“I love the face-to-face patient care. Up here, it flows so well with the team I have,” says Apodaca. “I really enjoy this office and feel very protective of it. With this growth out here, it’s very nice to be able to grow with it.”
Before joining Allergy & ENT Associates, Apodaca spent over 20 years as a labor and delivery nurse. Everything changed the day she met Dr. Allen Lieberman’s office manager at a Father’s Day barbecue. That chance encounter led her to one of the area’s top allergy experts, and she’s worked under him ever since, learning extensively as she earned her nurse practitioner certification.
Apodaca values helping patients realize that they don’t have to keep living with the misery of allergies just because they always have.
“There are kids who don’t want to go outside or are kept in at recess during high allergen season. But once they start immunotherapy, they can actually go play and do things they’ve been wanting to do,” says Apodaca. “We can also control asthma a lot better if we control the allergies.”
Another thing she stresses is parents caring for their own allergies. As a mom, she understands the instinct to put yourself last, but she sees firsthand how much better families function when everyone is breathing and sleeping more easily. That’s why the practice encourages families to come in together and get the care they all deserve. It’s a truly collaborative effort on the path to wellness.
“We’re trying to make it easier for people to get along in this environment. There are so many things we have to deal with, but having allergies doesn’t have to be part of it,” says Apodaca. “If we can give someone good care and good advice, not just throw things at them, and make sure they know that they’re heard, I think that’s very important.”
