When Wafa Qureshi first walked into a Discover Strength studio 13 years ago, she was not seeking a career shift or a new fitness identity. She was searching for a routine she could trust, backed by science, respectful of her time and capable of meaningful results. What she found reshaped her health and her family’s, and eventually inspired her family to bring Discover Strength to Lone Tree.
Wafa loved Discover Strength's Three E’s: Evidence-based, Efficient and Expert.
Evidence-Based - The workouts emphasize slow, precise movements designed for momentary muscular failure, a method supported by peer-reviewed research on strength and hypertrophy, performed with deliberate control and purpose to minimize the risk of injury.
Efficient - 30-minute, twice-a-week workouts, completed one-on-one or in small groups, yield meaningful results in a fraction of the time required by most conventional programs.
Expert - Every session is supervised by qualified exercise physiologists, ensuring proper form, safety, and individualized adjustments and loads.
Over time, Wafa began to experience a more profound impact from her workouts. Strength training, she learned firsthand, isn’t just about muscle tone or aesthetics. It’s about whole-body health, supported by research and confirmed by her own experience. The benefits are found in several key areas:
Cognitive Health
Strength training enhances focus and supports neuroplasticity, promoting overall well-being. Emerging science even links it with reduced risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Mental Wellness
Patients who strength train show lower rates of depression, improved mood and higher optimism.
Cardiovascular Health
When strength training induces muscular failure, the metabolic demand significantly increases, elevating heart rate and offering cardio benefits without the need for traditional endurance training.
Metabolic Function
Building muscle increases insulin sensitivity, a key factor in reversing conditions such as insulin resistance and pre-diabetes.
Functional Longevity
Strength training helps maintain balance and mobility, especially as people age, which in turn supports a higher quality of life and independence.
With such a significant personal transformation, Wafa encouraged her husband, Ajmal Ahmed, and their sons to try the workout as well. Her son Saif Ahmed, in particular, was doubtful. How could a 30-minute session create meaningful results? He discovered the intensity and efficiency for himself during his first workout, after which he almost found himself on the floor. This experience became a touchstone in the family’s approach to health, reversing personal health issues like insulin resistance and pre-diabetes. Strength became the foundation of their daily routines and approach to wellness: notably, even their vacations became more active.
As franchising opportunities expanded, Wafa and Ajmal saw a chance to bring that life-changing model to others. Today, the couple, along with Saif, co-owns Discover Strength Lone Tree. Their studio reflects the same environment that drew Wafa in years ago: professional, welcoming and intentionally designed for clients of all ages and fitness backgrounds.
Workouts are tailored for everyone—from those recovering from surgery to those less conditioned after years away from structured exercise. Even those who are already in excellent shape benefit from efficient results here.
In fact, for those who've experienced success with GLP-1 medication, resistance training, especially weight training, is the only way to combat the massive muscle loss and the corresponding bone density loss that accompany significant weight loss.
As Discover Strength continues its national expansion, the family remains clear about their purpose. For Wafa, the mission is personal.
“Strength training changed my life,” she says. “I want other people to experience the same.”
