Bledsoe Creek State Park has it all for outdoor family adventures. Located on Old Hickory Lake right in Gallatin, the historic park boasts scenic nature trails teeming with wildlife across its 169-acre expanse, camping options on the lake, easy water access for boats or kayaks and more.
Its rich history began long before its founding as an official state park in 1973. Bledsoe Creek State Park served as farmland and hunting grounds for Indigenous Peoples, including the Cherokee, Chickamauga, Creek and Shawnee tribes. Its namesake comes from Anthony and Isaac Bledsoe, two brothers who were hunters and settlers in the region and are known for their role in the early exploration and settlement of Middle Tennessee.

For hikers, Bledsoe Creek offers over four and a half miles of trails for all ability levels, with vista views and waterside strolls in a protected wetland. More experienced hikers can take to the 1.3-mile High Ridge Trail and experience the scenic views.
The Mayo Wix Trail is paved, stroller-friendly and wheelchair-friendly. It also includes the famous Storybook Loop, featuring enlarged pages from children’s books that are sure to delight kids and literary lovers. It is the perfect loop for families who want to spend time outdoors and enjoy nature’s beauty. Bledsoe Creek State Park is also dog-friendly, so every member of the family is welcome.
Want to hit the water rather than the trail? The park is the ultimate summer destination for a day out on Old Hickory Lake. It has two convenient public boat launch ramps, as well as three courtesy docks that visitors can use. Guided tours with Get Up and Go Kayaking are also available to book for those who want to enjoy paddling on the lake in a clear kayak.
Birders and nature-lovers, the possibilities will feel endless. A total of 165 species of birds have been recorded at the park. The summer comes alive when you spot a great blue heron standing in the water, and it is common to catch a deer or two grazing in the shade as you hike along the trails.
Visitors who want to extend a day trip into a weekend adventure will find convenient camping amenities at Bledsoe Creek. Campers can access paved and gravel RV and tent-friendly grounds with fire rings, grills and picnic tables, as well as water and electric hookups. There is also a laundromat and two bathhouses available for visitors to take hot showers.
The park also hosts events throughout the year for all ages. From tree identification hikes to firefly catching to junior ranger training, there is plenty to take part in.
