As we practice thankfulness this season, it’s important to honor those who dedicate their lives to protecting our communities. This month, we recognize David Hogan, a U.S. Air Force veteran and Plano police officer, for his unwavering service.
Inspired by his father, an Army veteran of Vietnam, Hogan enlisted in the Air Force from 1989 to 1996, where he ensured the structural integrity of aircraft. “My occupation required self-integrity and a ‘do the job right with no shortcuts’ attitude,” Hogan reflects. “I believe the same goes for law enforcement, which is why we train so much.”
After retiring from the military, Hogan remembered a pivotal moment at age 13, when his cousin, a police officer, took him on a call. He realized that an officer’s duty extends beyond protecting against crime; it also means supporting neighbors facing trauma. “Those are the people who deserve to be protected. That has stuck with me my entire life.”
Outside of protecting his town, Officer Hogan enjoys woodworking and spending time with his family. This holiday season, let’s give thanks to leaders like Officer Hogan, who put our safety above their own.
