A 40-year-old company, Penny Salak and her husband, Bob Hill, bought Hansen Glass 9.5 years ago and moved it into the heart of Parker. Located on East Plaza Drive, right off Highway 83, Penny felt this was the perfect spot, settled on a less-busy road at an intersection. Plus, they refer to the brewery next door as “office east” when happy hour calls.
Penny speaks frankly about being honest with customers regarding replacing windows around a home and avoiding scare tactics used by companies that insist people need new windows.
“We saved one customer $80,000,” she explains, after a Pinery homeowner received an enormous bid from a company to replace all their windows. “We went out, and the frames were gorgeous. They were in perfect condition. The person needed new glass.”
She continues, “That’s what we try to get across to people, is we will sell you what you need and not just what we want to make money on.”
The heartbeat of Hansen Glass is quality work with excellent customer service. Every project is custom-designed to fit a buyer’s needs, without overindulging in products that aren’t pertinent to their situation. Building a business on that philosophy brings repeat customers to their door, especially during the dreaded hail season.
“A lot of times after a hail storm, one side of your house gets hit,” Penny explains. “The whole house did not get damaged. Most companies don’t want to do one window. They want to do the whole house. If you only had like five windows that got damaged, you do not need to replace 30.”
Speaking of hail, Hansen Glass has a subsidiary, Screen King of Colorado, to help with hail-damage to screens, both for doors and windows.
“We will make completely new screens from the ground up, or you bring in the screen and the frame is fine, but somehow got shredded, we’ll do that too,” Penny says.
While Hansen Glass does 60% glass replacement work, they do entire windows, blinds, window treatments, shower or tub enclosures as well as pet doors.
As glass trends change for home and offices, Penny comments, “Glass is trending towards just being bigger and clearer.” That includes replacing cabinet doors with glass to open up space in kitchens and bathrooms, or replacing mirrors when the frame is intact.
Good news for lead time on glass is that the standard time is 2-3 weeks, unless there is a major hailstorm with extensive damage in the local community. Hansen Glass works with insurance companies whenever storms occur to ensure customers receive the repairs they need as quickly as possible.
An avid member of the Parker Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary, Penny enjoys giving back to the community that trusts her with all their glass needs.
“If I can’t give money, I give time,” Penny says.
From start to finish, Hansen Glass provides the workmanship people appreciate in their homes and businesses, trusting the process because integrity is an integral part of their success.
“That’s something that I tell people,” Penny explains. “We will rarely, if ever, be your cheapest bid, but we are worth the difference.”
