When you meet Alejandra Bermudez, owner of Active Recovery & Rehab, it’s instantly apparent that her work is deeply personal. As a first-generation Mexican American born and raised in Texas, Alejandra’s path toward healing has been shaped by both her rich cultural heritage and a passion for service. From volunteering at church to caring for sick family members, her compassion for healing others was present long before she knew her career would center on rehabilitation and recovery.
A certified therapist specializing in exercise therapy and nutrition, Alejandra found her calling through a mix of experience and inspiration. In 2012, she studied abroad through Texas Woman’s University and had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to volunteer at the London Paralympics. The experience was profound.
“Seeing the athletes’ resilience and determination ignited my interest in sports medicine,” she recalls. “It showed me the power of movement—not just for the body, but for the spirit.”
Years later, that same spark would guide her to launch her own practice. In October 2021, Alejandra’s beloved grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and early onset dementia. As her grandmother’s health declined, Alejandra noticed a painful gap in care for older adults, especially those needing both physical and mental health
support.
“I saw a decline in services right here in my own community,” she says. “That’s when I knew I needed to create something that would truly meet people where they are.”
That vision became Active Recovery & Rehab, a mobile therapy service designed to deliver compassionate, customized care directly into clients’ homes. Unlike traditional clinics, Alejandra’s model provides flexibility and comfort—two things many older adults and post-operative patients sincerely value.
“I’m able to offer my clients in-home therapies without them ever leaving the comfort of their own home,” she explains. “It removes transportation barriers and creates a more personal experience.”
Her guiding philosophy is beautifully simple: healing through motion. Alejandra believes that movement is one of the most powerful medicines available. “It’s about compassionate care, prevention, personalized treatments, and empowering individuals to take an active role in their health journey,” she says.
Each session is uniquely tailored, lasting 30 to 45 minutes and may include rapid tension relief therapy, guided exercise sessions, or focused mobility work.
“No two sessions are the same,” she notes. “Every client begins with an evaluation so we can discuss their goals, challenges, and strengths before creating a plan that fits their life.”
While many clients come to her with joint pain or recovery needs after surgery, Alejandra’s mission goes beyond physical healing.
“My goal is to continue providing encouragement and to be a reliable resource for my clients, even after services are complete,” she says. “I want every person I work with to feel supported, capable, and confident in their ability to keep moving.”
Looking ahead, Alejandra is introducing a new three-month affordable care program to make rehabilitation accessible for all. “At the end of the day, I just want people to keep moving,” she says with a smile. “Healing is possible. Sometimes it just takes the right person to help you take that first step.”
