Homes with Soul

How H+Co. Design Haus Creates Spaces That Reflect Real Life, Real People, and Real Comfort

A house most often feels like home when it provides comfort, helps you feel truly relaxed, and allows you to let your guard down and be yourself. Decorating your home is the perfect opportunity to create a space that is as unique and beautiful as the life you’ve built inside its walls.

When H+Co. Design Haus opened in 2023, it was a passion project for owner Heather Hargis. “I made the decision to give up my first career and jump headfirst into my passion; creating beautiful homes and spaces for people to make their most precious memories. A home is more than just a place you sleep or eat. It should be a place you are proud of, and a place that reflects you and your family.”

Each new project is an exciting challenge and a chance for Hargis to help her clients truly express themselves through the style of their homes. One of the first steps of the interior design process at H+Co. Design Haus is assessing how a household uses their space. “Function always has to take priority,” Hargis explains, “but once we know how a space needs to function, we can let the creative process run.”

In order to learn more about a client’s style and taste, Hargis focuses on learning more about them. “The more I understand about my clients’ lives and what means the most to them, the more I’m able to weave that into the design of their home.”

Another equally important aspect of the interior design process is trust. “Creating trust in my ability is vital,” Hargis says, “Trusting can be difficult for some people, but ultimately, the clients that put the most trust in me are often the happiest in the end.”

While every project is unique, there is one particular home design that stands out in Hargis’ memory. “The very first large-scale project that I did was special for me because it was my first whole home design. It forced me out of my comfort zone. This project was a large family ranch that was purchased furnished with the original furniture. My client wanted the home to feel updated and reflective of what he liked, and with bolder colors. Prior to this project, I didn’t have a lot of experience with sourcing ranch-style furnishings, but I embraced it fully and put my own special twist on it. We incorporated rich leathers, lots of texture, and a ton of character. It turned out beautifully, and I'm proud of it.”

Instead of labeling herself with a particular decorating style, Hargis uses her eye for design to tailor each home’s interior to match her clients’ tastes. From modern, rustic, contemporary, industrial, and beyond, she has designed spaces for every style and fashion. “It doesn't matter if it’s my taste or not,” Hargis says. “It’s their home, and it's my job to create a design they will love.”

Though each interior design project is as unique as the client, there is one common theme across all of Hargis’ projects. “In addition to making it aesthetically pleasing and functional, my philosophy is to carefully curate each space to feel comfortable and reflective of the people living there. No space is ever the same, and they shouldn't be. It's important that each home is full of character and has some soul to it.”

Homes are not the only spaces that benefit from Hargis’ expertise. She also works with local businesses to create beautiful and inspirational rooms, while taking into account how the space is used. “In the case of a business, if it’s a high traffic area, we would select more durable finishes and furnishings,” Hargis explains.

Though creating uniquely beautiful interiors for her clients is her passion, Hargis also enjoys building friendships as she spends time learning about her clients’ style and design preferences. “It sounds cliché, but I mean it with all my heart when I say that my favorite part of what I do is getting to build relationships with the wonderful humans that I work with. Some of my clients are now friends, and I am so grateful for those friendships.”

For home and business owners who are ready for a spring design refresh but aren’t quite sure what they’re looking for, Hargis has one piece of advice. “Just pick up the phone and call us! Put your trust in us to make it beautiful.”

With the opening of their new design studio, H+Co. Design Haus is here to help Parker County and the surrounding communities discover the beauty of personalized interior designs for their homes. Local residents will also benefit from a furniture showroom set to open later this spring, featuring a selection of decor, such as rugs, lighting, and furniture—all available for public purchase.

“Whether my clients are building their new families, growing their families, or settling in for a slower phase of their life, I feel privileged to help make that home beautiful and functional for all of their most precious moments,” Hargis says. “I take that honor seriously.”
