How Main Street Medina Brings People Together, Season After Season

There is something about uptown Medina that slows you down in the best possible way. Brick storefronts, park benches that invite lingering and the steady rhythm of locals greeting one another create a sense that this is not just a place you pass through — it’s a place you belong.

The historic Medina Public Square remains alive and continues to be a destination thanks in part to Main Street Medina. Since 2007, Main Street Medina has existed to lead historic preservation, support economic sustainability and guide the continued evolution of the district through events that have become a destination, on repeat.

Main Street Medina's festivities start this month with the ever-popular Ice Festival from Friday, February 20 to Monday, 23,presented by Elegant Ice Creations. During this four-day event, visitors can experience live ice sculpting, both individual and team competitions, transforming the square into an open-air gallery. Intricately carved ice sculptures line the storefronts, creating a one-of-a-kind winter backdrop that invites strolling, photos and plenty of awe.

As winter gives way to spring, the energy continues with the return of the Medina Square Farmers Market, taking place every Saturday from May 16 to October 10. The market is a celebration of 70+ local vendors featuring fresh breads and baked goods, farm-grown produce, meats and cheese, locally made rubs, butters and handmade pieces by local artisans and much more.

Then, kick off the summer with Main Street Medina's annual Kids Day on Saturday, June 6.  Local police, EMT and fire departments are on site throughout the day, offering safety demonstrations and opportunities for kids to interact with the people who help keep the community safe. Add in music, dancing and a variety of family-friendly activities, and the square comes alive with “schools out” energy.

As summer winds down, back-to-school season gets a creative twist with the South Town Arts & Music Festival on Saturday, Aug. 8. Stretching south of the Square, this vibrant art walk brings together creativity, community and sound in a way that feels distinctly Medina. With 12 bands performing from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., the district transforms into an all-day music experience, inviting locals and visitors alike to wander through art displays, explore nearby shops and enjoy live performances throughout the day and into the evening.

Autumn arrives in full color with Fall Fest on Saturday, Sept. 26. This event is everything people love about the season wrapped into one festive day on Medina Square. From pumpkin painting and family-friendly activities, the event invites visitors to slow down and savor the season. A crowd-favorite chili contest adds a friendly competitive spirit, drawing people together over warm bowls and shared traditions.

Perhaps the most special and best known event of the year is the annual Candlelight Walk. Taking place from Friday, Nov. 20 to Sunday, Nov. 22, the cherished tradition officially kicks off the holiday season in Medina. Enjoy extended holiday shopping on the square, seasonal treats and the unmistakable magic of everything the district has to offer. Families gather to visit Santa, watch the lights parade and take part in the highly anticipated lighting of the Christmas tree.

In addition to the larger signature events, smaller gatherings sprinkled throughout the year offer even more opportunities to experience Medina Public Square. One popular favorite is Coffee & Cars, which draws an impressive 150 vehicles and brings car enthusiasts together for a relaxed morning of conversation, coffee and classic style. Events like Ladies Night Out add another layer of fun, encouraging friends to shop, dine and enjoy special promotions throughout the district.

Behind every event, storefront and seasonal tradition is the ongoing work of Main Street Medina, supported by dedicated members, volunteers and community partners. Through membership and volunteerism, individuals and businesses play a direct role in shaping the future of the district — from promoting events and supporting local merchants to preserving the historic character that makes the square so special.

These efforts help ensure not only the success of beloved traditions, but also the economic vitality of downtown Medina. By fostering a strong, walkable business district and encouraging community involvement, Main Street Medina continues to create a place where history is honored, businesses can thrive and the square remains a vibrant gathering space.
