My Town: Teryl Ciarlo

For Teryl Ciarlo, landscape design is deeply personal. The Brentwood-based founder of Teryl Designs is known throughout the westside for her impeccable taste, balanced compositions and outdoor spaces that feel as livable as the interiors they extend. “I’ve always believed the outside of the home should flow naturally from the inside,” says Ciarlo of her signature gardens designed equally for entertaining, play and everyday retreat. Ciarlo’s passion was planted early. Growing up in Southern California, she spent hours cutting roses and picking fruit on her grandmother’s two-acre property. “As an adult, I realized how lucky I was to grow up in those surroundings,” she says. “That’s where my infatuation truly began.” Like so many, the Palisades Fire changed Ciarlo forever. After witnessing the loss of dozens of clients’ homes, she has spent the past year tirelessly helping families rebuild and donated her time and crew to replant the landscaping at the Palisades Fire Station, alongside frequent collaborator Olivier Roumy of Cocoturf. Though her work spans throughout Los Angeles, Ciarlo proudly calls Brentwood home, drawn to its tree-lined streets, mountain views and rare blend of nature, neighborhood and everyday beauty. Here, she shares some of her favorite local spots. 310-463-7863; @teryldesigns; teryldesigns.com
