Chiropractic care is about more than treating pain. It is a comprehensive approach that considers the whole body for optimal health, and its benefits are not limited to adults. Children, even newborns, can experience surprising improvements from chiropractic adjustments. From colic relief to boosting immunity, regular chiropractic care can make a difference.

For the team at The MVMNT Chiropractic in Lebanon, its work is about making adjustments that remove nervous system interference, so issues are treated at their source rather than as a reactionary response.

Dr. Rachel Baird, DC, CACCP, who is the owner and chiropractor at the MVMNT, says, “I think the biggest shift I try to help parents make is understanding that the nervous system isn't just about pain — it's the master control system for everything the body does. Every breath, every immune response, every emotional reaction, every milestone a child hits, is being directed by the brain communicating with the body through the spinal cord and nerves.

“We're not adjusting kids to fix a symptom. We're removing interference so the nervous system can do its job — and because the nervous system runs everything, the ripple effects often show up in places parents don't expect: better sleep, calmer moods, stronger immunity. It's not magic, it's physiology.”

Understanding the nervous system and how it affects a child’s well-being is particularly important as we enter back-to-school season, one of the most stressful times for kids. Baird explains that the nervous system has two states. One is in “go mode,” which will lead to emotional dysregulation, poor sleep and trouble focusing. The second state is one of calm that will help children with emotional regulation, improve sleep and cognitive function. Children often get stuck in the first state, but chiropractic care can make a difference.

“What chiropractic adjustments do, particularly in the upper cervical spine, is help shift the nervous system out of that stuck state. We see kids who come in wound tight — irritable, scattered, not sleeping — and leave calm. Parents notice it in the car on the way home before they've even pulled out of the parking lot.”

Getting children into the clinic before and during times of transition can help them navigate stressful seasons and maintain a healthy nervous system state.

Baird says, “The most powerful thing about a proactive approach is that you're not waiting for your child to fall apart before you address it. You're giving their nervous system the support it needs to adapt to that transition before the cracks show up.”

The positive impact of pediatric chiropractic care is personal to the owner of The MVMNT. Baird had been helping parents navigate difficult times with their infants who had colic, chronic ear infections and more. She knew and believed in the science that was helping those families.

She says, “But the moment that made all of this personal for me — even as someone who already knew this deeply — was with my own daughter. She was about eighteen months old, having one of those nights where nothing was right. Didn't want to be held, didn't want to be put down, wouldn't take her drink, couldn't settle. I adjusted her neck — the most neurologically dense region of the spine — and within seconds she went from inconsolable to smiling, dancing, laughing, completely herself again. I already believed in this work. But watching it happen in real time, in my own child, in the middle of a meltdown — that was something else entirely. That's the moment I understood it not just clinically, but in my bones.”

For parents who are nervous about taking their child in for an adjustment, Baird says appointments are tailored to the child's needs and are very gentle. There are no scary pops or noises during newborn adjustments, and parents often hold their child during the adjustment. The practice lets toddlers and children set the pace.

She says, “We're not trying to get through a checklist; we're trying to read the child in front of us.”

At the heart of The MVMNT is a desire to help families experience true wellness. Baird says, “We live so long with tension, with poor sleep, with low energy, with kids who struggle — and we normalize it because it becomes our baseline. But that baseline isn't fixed. Your body is not broken. It is incredibly intelligent and it wants to work for you — it just needs the interference removed so it can.”

Appointments can be scheduled online, or the practice can be reached directly via call or text. From the chiropractic care of Dr. Rachel Baird, DC, CACCP, or Dr. Keighley Hudziak, DC, to the warmth of Office and Wellness Coordinator, Carly Dirksen, The MVMNT lives up to its motto: a space where healing is whole-body, care is personal, and every family is seen and supported.
