Talent comes in all shapes and sizes. Right now, it looks like a 6-year-old Gallatin local who is making big swings in his golf game.
Meet Orrin Moyer. He is the son of Brent and Katlyn Moyer and brother to Oaklie. He is currently wrapping up his time at the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship in Pinehurst, North Carolina, representing the local community on a global stage. He will also be participating in the Under Armour Junior Tour - Nashville league this fall.
Orrin’s golf talent has always been apparent. His mother, Katlyn, says, “At 2, he started playing Tee Ball in Woodbury, TN, so he had some understanding of a ‘swing mechanic’ at a very young age. After hitting a few plastic balls with plastic clubs, we decided to get him his first set of real clubs. It took off after that; he started slamming drives and sinking putts, and we didn’t look back.”
Local landmarks like Long Hollow Golf Course have shaped Orrin’s game, providing places to practice. The community has also rallied around him and supported his golfing dream.
For Orrin’s parents, this journey has made them immensely proud.
Brent says, “As his father and caddie, I could not ask for a better experience. Seeing him learn, succeed and fail while representing himself and our family has been incredible. I thank God that he has given me this opportunity to share this game with Orrin. The wins and losses, the makes and misses, the Birdies and Bogies, all mean the world to me.”
For Katlyn, “As a golf mom, there is nothing quite like watching your child succeed at one of the most mentally and physically challenging games in the world … Orrin is so special and has such a natural talent, and I can’t wait to see him grow in this sport!”
As for Orrin, he is focusing on his love and passion for the game. He says his favorite thing about golf is, “Getting better and better, hitting the ball farther and farther.” His attitude stands as a testament to the exceptional work ethic in someone so young.
