I’m from Bath, England, where I grew up in a close-knit community. I discovered
basketball at 8 while briefly living in New York and immediately fell in love. From then
on, I knew it was something I wanted to pursue.
At 16, I moved back to the United States alone to pursue my dream of playing college
basketball. The biggest challenge was being away from my family and learning how to
live independently. While it’s been a huge adjustment, it’s helped me grow quickly.
My host family has been incredible. From day one, they made me feel welcome and
gave me a home away from home. They have supported me through everything and
truly feel like family. Some of my favorite memories with them include going to Hawaii
and celebrating our state championship. Those experiences are memories I will always
cherish.
Living abroad has helped me become more confident and independent. I have learned
to handle challenges and navigate life without having my family nearby. I’m especially
proud of winning a basketball state championship at Layton Christian Academy and
making lifelong friendships that feel more like family.
Receiving a scholarship would mean everything to me. It’s been my goal long before
moving to America. This experience has taught me resilience, independence, and the
importance of building meaningful connections. If I could give one piece of advice to
another considering this journey, it would be to be confident, make connections, try new
things, learn from every experience, and enjoy every moment.
