The Hope of Home

Fayette County's own, Tonya Jones, has written a memoir... and it is most memorable.

Tonya Jones invites readers into a life marked by unwavering faith—one that has endured profound loss, quiet moments of reflection, and the kind of valleys that test everything you believe. I found myself laughing, crying, and pausing often to think more deeply about my own journey. Her story is a raw and honest testimony of a faith that has never failed her, and a heart fully surrendered to God who continues to sustain her. A poignant Summertime read to add to your list.

What was the inspiration for writing this book?

It was an overflow when I was walking through one of the deepest valleys of my life. I was telling the Lord that no matter what, regardless of what the other side looked like, I would tell people about His faithfulness.

What is the overall theme of your story?

It really is hope. During the pandemic, there was a health crisis with my mother, followed by her death, and it became clear to me that I wanted to give people hope. Not that everything is perfect in life – the rain doesn't stop – but we can have hope in the middle of the storm.

What would you tell people who want to write a book?

Get it out there in whatever avenue you can! Be bold and brave and transparent. You may need to share tender things. Be patient with yourself. It may be a podcast. It may be telling your story on social media. It doesn't matter. Just get it out there.

What was the most meaningful to you about writing this book?

The conversations that took place and walking down memory lane were the most fun part of the process. Some of the memories were painful, but necessary. Because I never want to walk through some of those things again, I am mindful of where I am in my walk with the Lord so I can continue to grow in my intimacy with Him every day.

Who helped you during this project?

My family. I was so grateful for their patience and willingness to be vulnerable. I also had a ghostwriter, Joyce Beverly. I am so grateful for her. She was dedicated to making sure that the words in my head and my heart flowed through her fingertips. At the end of the day, the original Author of this story is God. And He's still writing. My heart's deepest desire is for people to know Jesus, not me. Nobody can write your story like Jesus can. And I hope you let Him.
