A SLOW AND STEADY DECLINE. It’s a future many people accept for themselves – but they don’t have to. TruNorth Vitality Clinic stands that fatalistic view of aging on its head. Rather than frail and creaky, their patients are becoming healthier and more vibrant with each candle they add to their birthday cakes.
“Solely cosmetic. Not grounded in science. Those describe the treatments offered by too many of the longevity clinics in the Twin Cities,” said Michele Maiers, DC, PhD, MPH, and executive director of research and innovation for Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU). “As an academic institution comprised of integrative healthcare experts who value evidence-informed treatments, we knew we could provide much better to our aging community.
“Every practitioner behind TruNorth Vitality Clinic believes healthy aging to be something worth celebrating and championing. We are passionate about helping members attain their fullest potential regardless of where their lives have taken them, and tailoring personalized care to each one-of-a-kind patient in an inclusive ‘one-stop shop’ for complementary and integrative health.”
“TruNorth Vitality Clinic encapsulates modalities that are demonstrably effective and performed by experts in their respective fields,” said Megan Hadley, MA, national board certified health and wellness coach, and reiki practitioner. “We are especially proud to offer the expertise of Dr. Beau Foshee, whose personal mission is supporting patients in achieving ‘vivessence’: authentically, vibrantly embodied aging. Dr. Foshee is a profoundly skilled chiropractor, who sensed tension and soft tissue problems that I was unaware I had through touch alone.
“Dr. Mary Nolan, our expert on acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, specializes in helping the body regain ideal function by balancing the energy that is central to good health. As a practitioner of Chinese medicine, Dr. Nolan also provides tui na, food therapy, and consultations for products we offer for sale at the herbal dispensary right here on campus.
“Colette King is a preternaturally talented massage therapist; a trauma-informed practitioner in full, whose close attunement to her patient’s body enables her to restore it to the condition in which it heals itself best. And last (but not least) is me! As a level two Usui Reiki practitioner, I serve as a conduit that calms the body and helps amplify its innate restorative abilities. And as a health coach, I regularly meet with new members in need of guidance toward creating a healthier lifestyle.
“We’re happy to help anyone live a longer, healthier life, though personal experience has taught me just how well suited integrative, whole-person care is to the aging population. Seniors have typically been through falls, surgeries, and emotional injuries that affect their wellbeing in unquantifiable ways. Traditional medicine tends to favor disjointed, one-size-fits-all interventions for their issues. Conversely, TruNorth Vitality Clinic practitioners recognize that all things are interconnected, which is the essence of holism. Ours is a trauma-informed approach that regards the patient’s biology, psychology, spirituality and history as a whole. It’s all in service of giving our patients true autonomy over their wellbeing and greater agency in their healthcare.
“Whether you are interested in one of our à la carte services or a comprehensive strategy for navigating age-related health transitions, I would be delighted to sit down with you in our clinic. We also offer multiple group programs, such as Seasons of Health Creation, which I lead; From Surviving to Thriving in Menopause, headed by our functional medicine trained integrative nurse practitioner Dr. Laura Sandquist; and Dana Brumitt’s Tai Ji Quan Moving for Better Balance. We just added a fall prevention program which showcases our clinic’s new agility and balance circuit training equipment. I also encourage you to check out our Vitality Series, which are one or two free monthly online events dedicated to overall health and longevity!”
