Rose Mont has been part of Gallatin’s story since 1836. The Palladian and Greek Revival house, built by Josephus Conn Guild, became a fixture early in its history for its renowned racehorses. Today, the estate connects Gallatin residents to its heritage as a museum, offering tours, hosting events and sharing local stories.
While the estate honors Gallatin’s past year-round, the holiday season brings the historic grounds to life with modern traditions. This year, the season kicks off with the free Christmas Market on Nov. 14 from 2 to 8 p.m. Guests can enjoy a day featuring highlights like local artisans, live music and carolers, all set on the historic grounds outside one of Tennessee’s outstanding Greek Revival homes.
Kate Ullery, executive director of Rose Mont, says, “We hope families will make the market part of their holiday traditions—and take their Christmas card photo here. The market is a stop on the Chamber of Commerce’s Tinsel & Treasures Shop Local event. We love our community, and we hope people will spend the morning on the Square and the evening with us at Rose Mont.”
Rose Mont’s annual Christmas fundraiser, Merry Mantles, takes place Dec. 5. The event invites guests inside for a relaxed holiday party featuring wine, hors d'oeuvres and live hammer dulcimer music while experiencing the historic home decorated for Christmas. Tickets are $50 per person.
Beyond the holiday festivities, there are plenty of ways to experience the estate throughout the year. Regular visiting hours take place April through October, but visitors can book private tours or events on the website, HistoricRoseMont.org, and learn more about the home's history.
The nonprofit preserves Gallatin’s storied past while giving guests opportunities to create new memories. Community support helps preserve local history and programming, whether through donations, volunteer work or attending events like Merry Mantles.
“Every kind of support helps us care for Rose Mont and keep its stories alive for the community,” Ullery says.
