When Architecture Becomes Art

Inside the Visionary Work of Nashville’s Lotus Building Group, Where Every Home Is a Masterpiece

Benjamin Franklin once said, “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.” Franklin’s sentiment serves as a sort of mantra for the Lotus Building Group—and as owner Keegan Fioravanti’s email tagline.

Lotus Building Group, a luxury Nashville construction business founded in 2018, focuses on creating high-quality, artistically driven work for clients who want to build beautiful homes that will stand the test of time. “The focus is bringing craftsmanship back,” Fioravanti said. “We offer a lot of creativity and a lot of quality. We make sure we are installing long-lasting products that are for more of a forever home than what is typically offered nowadays.”

Fioravanti has always been inspired by the beautiful mid-century modern homes more common on the West Coast, where he grew up, and wanted to create a company in Nashville that would bring some of that beauty and detailed craftsmanship to architecture in the city.

“So many of these houses being built nowadays are falling apart in a couple of years. Our goal is to make sure that’s not happening,” Fioravanti said. Focusing on high-quality, sustainable builds allows Lotus to collaborate with clients on every single detail of the project, inspiring as much creativity as possible for both the homeowners and the Lotus team. When it comes to creating a client’s dream home, Lotus tries to “push the boundaries of what can and can’t be done” to bring their vision to life.

Whether it is building a spiral staircase inspired by a wall treatment a client saw on vacation or putting a swimming pool on the roof of a four-story home, Lotus prides itself on being able to create anything a client imagines. “What is your dream? What are the wildest things you want to put in your home?” These are some of the questions Lotus will ask clients when planning a project.

The Lotus Building Group’s answer to all of it? “We can do it.”

One of the company’s biggest strengths is its dynamic, diverse team. Lotus boasts of a team with a variety of skills—from designers, architects, and builders to craftsmen specializing in woodwork and metal fabrication, it’s the unique blend of talents that allows the company to accomplish any level of design clients want.

Lotus has worked on home projects with all sorts of design styles, aesthetics, and ages, focusing more on creating “wow” moments in clients’ homes rather than one particular vision or style.

“We do a lot of historic homes as well,” Fioravanti said. “Some people come to us wanting everything to be as historically accurate as possible. So, we do the research to learn what kind of siding they use, what kinds of materials were used at that time?”

An upcoming project has the group building a Gothic Revival architecture home from the ground up in the 12 South neighborhood. The client wants to make the home all black and keep the design in line with old-school New York aesthetics of the early 1900s, when the home was built. “I’m excited for the complication of that!” Fioravanti said.

Lotus is also signed on to build entire neighborhoods of homes in Whites Creek, East Nashville, and Belle Meade in the coming years. One of these developments, which Fioravanti is especially excited for, will bring a flavor of the West Coast to the South. “It’s all focused on being Mid-Century Modern, Palm Springs style meets LA,” he said. “That’s what people are wanting; they want to go back to more simplicity.”

At the heart of The Lotus Building Group is a deep affinity for not only the beauty of their projects but also the longevity of them. “I hope our company pushes people to want and expect more quality out of the homes they are paying good money for. I want to get more young people into the trades. I want to bring back an understanding of quality and craftsmanship.”
