Incorporating Juices and Smoothies Into Your Life

Liquid Nirvana shares a simple, but life-changing way, to streamline your diet

Liquid Nirvana Juice and Smoothie bar has been in business since 2014, with two locations, Glastonbury and Avon. In addition to Acai Bowls, smoothies, and smoothie bowls, juices have been an integral part of the Liquid Nirvana’s menu. We serve both individual juices and juice detox programs.

Why juice?

Adding juice with vegetables and fruits to your daily diet daily increases blood levels of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Juice can also help lower blood levels of unhealthy elements and boost the immune system. Consuming mixed fruit and vegetable juice has shown to improve nutrient levels of beta carotene, folate, potassium and selenium. There's even evidence juice can reduce the risk of diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s and asthma.

Juicing is a convenient way to up your nutrient intake. It’s the easiest way to “eat” enough fruits and vegetables, especially if you find it difficult to get the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables into your daily diet. It’s is a great alternative to processed drinks for kids and it helps boost your energy levels

Fresh juices are packed with soluble fiber, which supports good bacteria growth and digestive health. Juicing has been shown to regulate blood sugar levels, lower cholesterol, and slow the transit of food through the digestive tract. In both apple and orange juice, you can find almost three grams of healthy soluble fiber.

Antioxidants naturally occur in plant-based foods, especially juices, and help prevent or stop cell damage caused by oxidants. Darker colored fruits and vegetables usually contain more antioxidants.

Freshly squeezed juices provide your body with a large quantity of water, which works to help the body process carbohydrates, produce energy, keep your metabolism active, and maintain the health and elasticity of your skin.

Juice and smoothie tips:

  • You can juice a wide variety of vegetables, each providing a unique set of nutrients and health benefits. Carrots, apples, cucumbers, celery, parsley, cilantro, mint, pineapple, kale, spinach, sweet potato, bell peppers, wheat grass, turmeric, lemon/limes, oranges, fennel, ginger, and tomato are some of the top vegetables for juicing.
  • Try mixing and matching veggies from the list above to squeeze different vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants into your diet. You should combine vegetables with fruits to further dial up the flavor and health benefits.
  • Quantities vary based on taste, but try to use more greens and less fruit. 80/20 rule is best - 80 percent vegetables and 20 percent fruits.
  • Should I do a cleanse? A cleanse can help regulated your colon, flushing the toxins out of your body. Juicing increases energy, stamina, and mental clarity. Cleanses lead to better sleep patterns, you’ll get a radiant complexion and healthier hair and nails.
  • What about protein? Fruits and vegetables have adequate protein for a 3-5 day cleanse. For a long-term cleanse, think of adding a plant-based protein to juices.
  • Real Results:Greg embarked on a 30-day juice in 2015. He lost 31 pounds and felt much healthier. He decided to take control of his own diet, adding more exercise in the form of daily walking and came to Liquid Nirvana to pick up his first six juices. “I found I had more energy when I was juicing.” Greg said.
